This restaurant is approximately 10 minutes' walk from our house. The Gainsborough is Bath's newest 5 star hotel, and apparently its chef has been awarded a few Michelin stars. We have not eaten there yet, but we stepped in to check out the menu and a) it looked gorgeous! and b) the doorman was extremely welcoming. It has a very nice, informal feel, but at the same time suggests quality and inventiveness. I'll update this as soon as we have a chance to try it out! |
dower house, 16 royal crescent, BA1 2ls

This is probably one of the most prestigious addresses in Bath, right in the centre of the Royal Crescent. It is about a 20-25 minute walk from our house. The food is as gorgeous as you would expect, but the interior is slightly lacking in cosiness, and it's a little bit formal - still, it's tried and tested, and a nice place to go for a special occasion. If you can eat out in the garden, it is much nicer (in my opinion). Also, the lunches are pretty much the same menu as the dinners, but for about half the price (or less!). |
the porter / clayton's kitchen, 15a george street, ba1 2en

This is our new favourite restaurant in Bath! the atmosphere here is much more relaxed than at any of the other establishments on this page - it is the only place I would feel comfortable turning up for lunch without a reservation (I'd feel comfortable doing the same at dinner, but it's pretty likely to be booked up!) Fantastic food - everything you'd expect: fresh, seasonal, locally sourced where possibly, and the cooking is innovative without being pretentious. Yum!! It is approximately 15-20 minutes' walk from our house. |
The bath priory, weston road, ba1 2xt

This one is about a 30 minute walk from our house. It's a lovely walk, past the Crescent and through Royal Victoria Park. Or you could just take a taxi. It's just lovely, a real special occasion location. Perfect for an anniversary or birthday. And ultra yummy food. |
